Overview
ONToP (Orillia New to Practice) was developed to improve access to local healthcare resources for physicians and healthcare professionals entering practice in the Orillia region.
The project transformed a 48-page healthcare resource guide into a searchable digital directory, allowing users to quickly locate healthcare services, referral resources, community programs, and clinical support information.
The objective was to improve information accessibility, reduce time spent searching through lengthy documents, and provide healthcare providers with a more efficient way to connect patients with appropriate services.
Key Insight
Valuable healthcare information often already exists; the challenge is making it easy to find. Improving accessibility can be just as impactful as creating new resources.
Source Material
The project was developed from an existing healthcare resource guide maintained for physicians entering practice in the Orillia region.
Key Achievements & Contributions
- Identified challenges associated with locating information within large healthcare resource documents.
- Converted a static 48-page healthcare resource guide into a searchable digital directory.
- Structured and organized healthcare information into an intuitive, user-friendly format.
- Improved accessibility of community services, referral resources, and healthcare programs.
- Applied information architecture principles to simplify navigation and resource discovery.
- Demonstrated how existing healthcare resources can be enhanced through practical digital transformation initiatives.
- Created a scalable framework that could be expanded to support additional healthcare directories and resource databases.
- Reduced dependence on manual document searching by creating a searchable, filterable resource directory.
Problem Statement
Healthcare providers frequently rely on resource guides containing valuable information about local healthcare services, referral pathways, community supports, and clinical programs.
While these guides often contain comprehensive information, locating specific resources can be time-consuming when users must manually search through lengthy documents.
ONToP was created to improve the accessibility and usability of this information by transforming a static document into a searchable digital resource.
